Super Pang (running here as the World 900914 arcade revision), also known as Super Buster Bros. in North America, is the 1990 sequel to the hit arcade action-puzzle game by Mitchell Corporation. Players control a globe-trotting explorer armed with a harpoon gun, tasked with clearing stages of bouncing balloons. Shooting a large balloon splits it into two smaller ones, continuing until the smallest balloons are popped completely. The game introduced the frantic continuous survival Panic Mode alongside the traditional stage-clearing Tour Mode.
How to Play
Your objective is to pop every balloon on the screen without letting one touch you. By default for arcade games in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move left and right, and press Z or X to fire your harpoon straight up. In Tour Mode, you can use ladders and platforms to navigate the layout, while Panic Mode is a straightforward test of endurance with a constant rain of bubbles.
Tips
- Watch your timing: Your harpoon takes a moment to travel and you can only have a limited number on screen. Wait for a balloon to bounce over you, then step underneath and fire.
- Use the ceiling: Harpoons stick to the ceiling for a brief period. You can lay a trap for a balloon that is about to bounce into that column.
- Prioritize power-ups carefully: The double-wire and grapple (which stays attached to the ceiling until hit) are fantastic, but the vulcan gun can be dangerous as it rapidly splits balloons into chaotic swarms if you are not prepared to dodge them.
