Released for the SNES in 1994 by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems, Super Metroid is an atmospheric action-platformer that helped define an entire genre of exploration-based gaming. You guide bounty hunter Samus Aran through the labyrinthine depths of planet Zebes, acquiring new suits, weapons, and traversal abilities to reach previously inaccessible areas and ultimately recover a stolen infant Metroid.
How to play
Your objective is to explore Zebes, defeat the Space Pirate leaders, and stop Mother Brain. Combat and traversal require a mix of running, jumping, and utilizing Samus’s arm cannon.

Tips
- Use the map stations: Zebes is huge, and it’s easy to get lost. Download map data from designated map rooms in each sector to see the basic layout of the area.
- Wall jumping: You can scale single walls by spin-jumping towards them, pressing the opposite direction right as you touch the wall, and hitting the jump button again. This can let you access items early.
- Save your Super Missiles: While regular missiles are plentiful, Super Missiles deal immense damage. Save them for boss fights or heavily armored enemies rather than standard foes.
