Super Hunchback (Japan) is a 2D platformer developed by Ocean Software and released for the Game Boy in 1992. As a follow-up to the classic arcade title, the game follows Quasimodo on a quest to rescue Esmeralda from a trap-filled castle. You must navigate nine levels full of hazards, swinging on ropes and avoiding cannonballs, while racing against a burning fuse that acts as your time limit.
How to Play
Your objective in each section is to survive the gauntlet of traps and locate the giant bell to ring it and advance. Time is strictly limited by the burning fuse at the bottom of the screen. Play using the default Game Boy browser controls: use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move, Z and X (A and B) to jump or act, and Enter (Start) to pause or begin the game.
Tips
- Extend your time: Grab the hourglass pickups to add time back to the burning fuse.
- Ride the cannonballs: While taking a hit from the side will hurt you, Quasimodo can safely jump on top of cannonballs to ride them across dangerous gaps.
- Collect the fruit: Gathering 100% of the fruit in a level will reward you with an extra life.
