Strider is a fast-paced side-scrolling hack-and-slash platformer released by Capcom for the Arcade in 1989. You play as Hiryu, an elite ninja tasked with assassinating the dictator Grandmaster Meio. Armed with a plasma sword known as the Cypher, you must acrobatically navigate through futuristic environments, climbing walls and ceilings to overcome hordes of enemies.
How to Play
The objective is to fight your way to the end of each stage and defeat the boss to progress. Strider uses standard arcade controls: use the joystick (mapped to the arrow keys) to move Hiryu, crouch, and aim your attacks. Press the primary action button (usually Z or X) to swing your Cypher, and the secondary button to jump. You can cling to most walls and ceilings by jumping towards them.
Tips
- Your Cypher has excellent range and can be swung extremely fast by mashing the attack button; use this to clear out tight groups of enemies quickly.
- Don’t forget to collect power-ups dropped by enemies or found in item boxes, which can increase your attack range or summon robotic companions to fight alongside you.
- Use your sliding attack (down + jump) to quickly pass under projectiles or damage low-profile enemies.
