Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage is a 1994 side-scrolling beat ’em up for the SNES developed by Software Creations. Based directly on the iconic Marvel comic book crossover, it lets you switch between playing as Spider-Man and Venom as they form an uneasy alliance to stop Carnage and his gang of supervillains from tearing apart New York City. The game features cutscenes styled right out of the comic panels and a hard-hitting soundtrack by Green Jellรฟ.
How to play
Walk through the streets of New York fighting waves of thugs and bosses. The controls map the SNES gamepad to your keyboard: move with the arrow keys, punch or attack with Z, and jump with X. You can grab enemies, climb walls, and swing using your webs. Throughout the levels, you can collect hidden superhero icons to summon assists from other Marvel characters like Captain America, Black Cat, and Firestar.
Tips
Conserve your superhero summons for the brutal boss fights, especially against Doppelganger and Shriek. Both Spider-Man and Venom have different strengthsโSpider-Man is faster and better at crowd control, while Venom deals heavier damage, so pick the character that suits your playstyle when the game gives you a choice. Keep moving up and down the screen to dodge incoming attacks and grab enemies safely.
