Released in 1991 by Sega for the Sega Genesis, Sonic the Hedgehog redefined the platforming genre with its intense speed and vibrant level design. Players guide the iconic blue hero through varied zones to stop Dr. Robotnik from using the local animal population to power his mechanical creations.
How to Play
Navigate through each zone quickly while collecting gold rings, which protect you from damage. Controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move and crouch, Enter for Start, and Z, X, or C to jump. You can destroy enemies by jumping on them or rolling into them.
Tips
- Keep at least one ring in your inventory at all times; as long as you hold one, taking damage will only cause you to scatter your rings instead of losing a life.
- When running down slopes, press down to curl into a ball. This builds momentum and allows you to safely defeat enemies in your path.
- Try to stay on the higher paths in each act. They are often safer, contain fewer hazards, and offer more ring monitors than the lower routes.
