Game description:

Released by Sega in 1995 for the Sega Genesis, Sonic Compilation (also known as Sonic Classics in North America) brings together three defining games of the 16-bit era on a single cartridge. The collection features the genre-defining speed of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, the refined platforming and introduction of Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and the competitive color-matching puzzle gameplay of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.

How to Play

Navigating each game relies on standard Sega Genesis controls: use the D-pad (arrow keys) for movement, and the A, B, or C buttons (typically mapped to Z, X, or C) for your main actions. These buttons let you jump and perform the Spin Dash in the platformers, or rotate your pairs of falling beans in the puzzle segments. Press Start (Enter) to begin or pause the action.

Tips

  • Spin Dash limits: Remember that the Spin Dash (holding down and repeatedly pressing an action button to rev up) is only available in Sonic 2. In the original Sonic the Hedgehog, you must build momentum purely by running.
  • Water stages: In Sonic 1‘s Labyrinth Zone and Sonic 2‘s Aquatic Ruin Zone, always keep an eye out for large air bubbles rising from the floor to avoid drowning.
  • Chain reactions: In Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, focus on setting up multi-step chain reactions rather than clearing beans one pair at a time. Chains send far more "Refugee Beans" to overwhelm your opponent’s screen.
