Step into the most violent game show of the future in Smash T.V., a relentless top-down arcade shooter ported to the NES in 1991. You play as a heavily armed contestant dropped into arena rooms filled with swarms of enemies, fighting for your life to win cash and prizes. It is a frantic run-and-gun experience that captures the intense, screen-filling chaos of the arcade original.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive each room, clear out all enemies, and defeat the boss at the end of each studio stage. You move your character with the D-pad (mapped to the arrow keys). The NES adaptation gives you standard shooting controls using the A and B buttons (Z and X keys) to fire in the direction you are facing or to lock your fire, and Start (Enter) to pause. Collect keys to advance and grab as many weapons and power-ups as you can.
Tips
- Always stay on the move. Getting cornered by the massive crowds of enemies is a quick way to lose a life.
- Prioritize picking up weapon upgrades like the spread gun or missiles as soon as they drop, as your default weapon is weak against large swarms.
- While collecting toasters and VCRs boosts your score, do not risk your life for them if enemies are closing in. Survival comes first.
