Sky Kid is a classic horizontally scrolling shooter originally developed by Namco in 1985. In this arcade hit, you take control of biplane pilots Red Baron and Blue Max as they fly from right to leftโa unique direction for shooters of the era. The goal is to navigate enemy-filled skies, retrieve bombs, and drop them on specific ground targets like fortresses and battleships before landing safely at the end of each stage. This specific version was manufactured under license for the Italian market by Sipem.
How to play
You control your biplane’s altitude and speed while shooting down enemy fighters and bombing ground installations. To successfully bomb a primary target, you must fly low to pick up a bomb from the ground, then fly over the target and release it at the right moment. You can also perform a vertical loop to quickly evade enemy fire or shake off planes tailing you. For browser play, arcade controls typically map the arrow keys to movement, with Z and X handling your machine gun and the loop/bomb action. Use Enter/Shift for Start and Insert Coin.
Tips
- Mastering the loop maneuver is essential; it not only dodges incoming fire but can position you perfectly behind an enemy.
- You don’t have to destroy every enemy plane. Focus on surviving, picking up the bomb, and hitting the main target to clear the stage successfully.
- If you take a hit, your plane will begin to fall. You can often recover and continue flying by rapidly mashing the loop button before you crash into the ground.
