Game description:

Co-designed by legendary mangaka Go Nagai and developed by Almanic, Shien’s Revenge is a first-person rail shooter released for the SNES in 1994. You play as the skilled ninja Shien, travelling through time portals to rescue your partner Aska from the monstrous Undertaker. In a unique twist for the 16-bit era, the game moves you forward automatically while you use an aiming reticle to hurl kunai, slash approaching monsters, and block incoming fire.

How to Play

Your movement is on rails, so your focus is entirely on aiming and reacting to enemy attacks. Use the D-Pad (typically mapped to your Arrow keys) to move your targeting crosshair. The SNES action buttons (usually mapped to Z, X, A, and S on your keyboard) are used to throw shuriken at distant targets, perform a melee slash against enemies that jump into the foreground, and trigger magic attacks. Use the shoulder buttons (L/R, often mapped to Q/W) to raise your guard and deflect incoming projectiles. You can rebind your keys or use a connected gamepad via the emulator settings.

Tips

  • Master the block: Don’t try to out-damage every enemy. When you see projectiles flying toward you, immediately hold your block button to deflect them and minimize damage.
  • Watch the foreground: Your shurikens are useless against enemies that get up close. Switch to your slash attack instantly when an enemy jumps right in front of the screen.
