Game description:

SDI (Japan), developed by Sega and released for the Sega Master System in 1987, is a strategic shoot ’em up that brings arcade-style action to the 8-bit console. The game divides its gameplay into two distinct phases, tasking you with both open space combat and precise missile interception to protect Earth.

The game alternates between Offensive and Defensive phases. In Offensive stages, you control your satellite to destroy enemy fighters and bases. In Defensive stages, you must aim a crosshair to shoot down incoming ICBMs before they can reach the planet below. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys in the browser) to move your ship or crosshair, and the main action buttons (Z or X) to fire your weapons.

Tips

  • Focus on destroying enemy missile launchers during the Offensive phases; taking them out early directly reduces the number of missiles you will have to intercept during the Defensive half of the stage.
  • Keep moving to avoid enemy fire in space, as your satellite presents a large target.
