Game description:

Samurai Shodown is a classic 2D weapons-based fighting game, originally released by SNK for the arcade and ported to the Sega Genesis in 1994. Set in late 18th-century Japan, it stands out from other fighting games of the era by focusing on weapon combat, where heavy slashes deal massive damage and characters can actually be disarmed during battle.

How to Play

Your objective is to defeat a diverse cast of sword fighters, ninjas, and warriors, ultimately facing the evil sorcerer Amakusa. Combat emphasizes precise timing and spacing over long combos. The game uses standard Sega Genesis controls: use the Arrow Keys to move, and the Z, X, C or A, S, D keys to perform various light and heavy slashes and kicks.

Tips

  • Watch the POW Gauge: Taking damage fills your POW gauge. When it maxes out, your character flashes red and your attacks deal significantly more damage.
  • Weapon Clashes: If two strong attacks collide, a clash occurs. Mash the attack buttons quickly to disarm your opponent and gain a massive advantage.
  • Pick Up Your Weapon: If you are disarmed, your reach and damage are severely reduced. Quickly maneuver over your dropped weapon to recover it.
