Game description:

Known internationally as Art of Fighting, Ryuuko no Ken is a 1994 competitive 2D fighting game ported to the Sega Genesis. Developed by SNK, the game distinguishes itself from other early fighters with its massive, detailed character sprites that take visible physical damage during combat, alongside a unique energy management system.

How to Play

Your objective is to defeat opponents in one-on-one martial arts battles by depleting their health bars. Use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) for movement, jumping, and blocking. The A, B, and C buttons (typically mapped to A, S, D or Z, X, C) execute punches, kicks, and heavy attacks, while Start (Enter) pauses the game.

Tips

  • Manage your Spirit Gauge: Performing special moves depletes your spirit gauge, eventually preventing you from using them. Hold down a punch or kick button to manually recharge it when you have distance.
  • Taunt the opponent: You can drain your opponent’s spirit gauge by taunting them. Use this strategically to stop them from unleashing their most powerful projectile attacks.
  • Look out for hidden moves: In the story mode, completing bonus mini-games unlocks the incredibly powerful Super Death Blow (Haoh Shoko Ken) for Ryo and Robert.
