Run Deep (also known as The Deep) is a nautical-themed arcade shooter released by Cream Company in 1988. In this unique take on the shoot ’em up genre, you command a surface vessel tasked with defending against a relentless barrage of underwater threats. Instead of traditional forward-firing weapons, gameplay centers around dropping depth charges to eliminate submarines and mines lurking beneath the waves, all while dodging incoming torpedoes from below.
How to play
The objective is to survive as long as possible while destroying enemy submarines to rack up points. Move your boat left and right to avoid incoming fire. Drop depth charges into the water to destroy submerged targets; your supply is limited but replenishes over time. Be on the lookout for friendly helicopters, which occasionally drop power-ups like smart bombs, speed boosts, or temporary invincibility.
Tips
- Manage your depth charges: Since your ammo replenishes over time, avoid dropping all your charges at once. Keep a few in reserve for sudden groups of submarines.
- Stay mobile: Torpedoes move quickly from the bottom of the screen. Constantly shifting your position makes it harder for enemies to lock onto your boat.
- Prioritize helicopters: Always grab the power-ups dropped from above. A well-timed smart bomb or invincibility can save you when the screen fills with enemy fire.
