Road Fighter is a classic top-down arcade racing game released by Konami in 1984. As one of the company’s earliest driving titles, it puts you behind the wheel of a high-speed sports car on a perilous cross-country course. Your primary goal is to reach the finish line of each stage before your fuel runs out. The vertically scrolling road is packed with civilian traffic, reckless drivers, and treacherous oil slicks that will send you skidding into the barriers.
How to play
Drive fast, avoid crashing, and collect fuel to stay in the race. Your fuel meter drains constantly as you drive and drops sharply if you collide with other vehicles or the sides of the track. To survive, you must touch the special multi-colored cars scattered along the route to refill your tank. Use the arrow keys to steer, and Z and X to accelerate. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Watch out for the red carsโthey are unpredictable and will actively try to side-swipe you as you attempt to pass them.
- Ease off the high-speed button when navigating through tight packs of traffic or approaching oil slicks; control is often more important than raw speed.
- If you hit a car or slick and start spinning, steer into the spin to quickly regain control before you hit the wall.
