Renegade is a classic side-scrolling beat ’em up released for the Sega Master System. Pioneering the street-brawling genre, players take control of a lone vigilante fighting through urban environments to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from ruthless gangs. The game introduces fundamental mechanics that defined future brawlers, including four-way movement, grappling, and fighting multiple enemies simultaneously.
How to play
Battle through waves of street thugs, bikers, and gang leaders across various stages. You must defeat the boss of each area before the timer runs out to progress.
- Move: Arrow keys
- Punch / Attack Front: Z
- Kick / Attack Back: X
- Jump: Z and X simultaneously
- Start: Enter
Tips
- Watch your back: Enemies will constantly try to surround you. Use your back kick to quickly deal with thugs approaching from behind without having to turn around.
- Use the terrain: You can knock enemies off ledges or into pits in certain stages (like the subway tracks) for instant knockouts.
- Master the grapple: When you stun an enemy, walk into them to grapple. From here, you can deliver knee strikes or throw them into other enemies for crowd control.
