Renegade is a side-scrolling beat-em-up developed by Technos Japan and published by Taito for the NES in 1986. You fight through four stages of city gangs — the same studio whose next project was Double Dragon, built on the same grappling foundation. The action is direct: move in, hit and grab your way through the crowd, and take down the boss waiting at the end of each stage.
How to Play
Move with the arrow keys. X is your main attack — a punch or kick depending on your stance and movement direction. Z jumps. Walk into an enemy to grab them, then press X to headbutt or Z to throw them. Clear every enemy in an area to advance to the next wave; defeat the stage boss to move on. Press Enter to start.
Tips
- Thrown enemies damage anyone they land on — toss one into a group to clear multiple targets at once.
- Enemies approach from both sides. Keep moving to avoid being sandwiched between two attackers at the same time.
- Boss characters hit hard and have longer reach than regular enemies. Bait their attack to miss, then step in while they recover.
