Quarth (Japan) is a unique hybrid of shoot ’em up and puzzle mechanics developed by Konami and released for the NES in 1990. Instead of simply matching falling shapes, players pilot a ship at the bottom of the screen and shoot blocks upwards to form complete squares and rectangles, causing them to disappear before they reach the bottom.
How to Play
Your objective is to shoot blocks into the descending incomplete shapes until they form perfect squares or rectangles, which will clear them from the board. Move your ship to line up shots and fire quickly before the advancing blocks reach the bottom.
- Move: Arrow Keys
- Shoot Blocks: Z or X
- Start/Pause: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Build wider shapes: Larger rectangles score significantly more points than smaller squares, so try to build horizontally when you have the space.
- Keep the screen clear: As the game progresses, the descending blocks speed up. Don’t let the shapes build too far down the screen, as it limits your reaction time and space to maneuver.
