Game description:

Prince of Persia is a vastly expanded 1992 Super Nintendo (SNES) port of Jordan Mechner’s groundbreaking cinematic platformer. While it retains the fluid rotoscoped animation and deliberate, physics-based movement of the original, this version completely revamps the experience. It extends the escape from the Sultan’s dungeon from 13 to 20 sprawling levels, increases the real-time limit to 120 minutes, and introduces new environmental hazards, exclusive boss fights, and a highly praised, atmospheric soundtrack.

How to Play

Your goal is to navigate the deadly dungeons, defeat the evil vizier Jaffar, and rescue the princess before the two-hour time limit expires. Movement requires precision rather than speed. Use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to run, crouch, and climb. Press the Jump button, typically B (Z on keyboard), to leap over gaps. Hold the Action button, typically Y (A on keyboard), to cautiously step forward without falling off edges, or to grab items and hang from ledges. During sword fights, use the Action button to strike and Up on the D-pad to parry enemy blows.

Tips

  • Use the careful step: When approaching spikes or unfamiliar ledges, hold the Action button to step forward. Your character will automatically stop at the edge and will not fall.
  • Master the parry: Sword combat rewards patience over aggression. Wait for an enemy to attack, press Up to parry their blade, and immediately counterattack.
  • Find hidden health: Jump up to hit the ceiling in dead ends. Dislodging loose ceiling tiles often reveals hidden paths or large red potions that permanently increase your maximum health.
