Game description:

Shogun Warriors (also known in Japan as Fujiyama Buster) is a 1992 arcade 2D fighting game developed by Atop and published by Kaneko. Set against the backdrop of ancient Japan, it features a roster of fighters inspired by Japanese history and mythology, including a samurai, a ninja, and a kabuki performer. Arriving during the early 1990s fighting game boom, the game distinguishes itself with its theatrical aesthetic, early use of blood effects during weapon attacks, and a unique grappling system.

How to Play

The objective is to defeat your opponent in a best-of-three martial arts tournament by depleting their health bar. The game traditionally uses an 8-way joystick for movement and jumping, along with four attack buttons for weak and strong punches and kicks. When playing in the browser, movement is typically mapped to the arrow keys, with attacks on the Z, X, A, and S keys, and Enter acting as Start. One of the game’s defining mechanics is its grab systemโ€”if you are caught in a grapple, you must rapidly move the directional inputs to break free.

Tips

  • Escape grabs quickly: Throws can be devastating. When an opponent grabs you, vigorously wiggle the movement keys to break their hold and minimize damage.
  • Poke with weak attacks: Heavy strikes have long recovery animations that leave you open to counterattacks. Rely on weak punches and kicks to safely gauge distance and interrupt your opponent.
