Pit-Fighter is a 1990 fighting game published by Tengen for DOS, porting Atari’s arcade hit famous for its early use of digitized real-life actors. As an underground arena brawler, it sets itself apart from traditional 2D fighters by using an isometric perspective where players can move freely around the pit, battling an array of gritty opponents using punches, kicks, and weapons found in the crowd.
How to play
The objective is to fight your way through the underground circuit and ultimately defeat the mysterious champion, the Masked Warrior. You select between three fightersโBuzz, Ty, and Katoโeach with their own fighting style and special moves. The game is controlled by the standard keyboard mapping from the original MS-DOS release; be sure to check your key bindings once the game loads. For fullscreen mode, press Right Alt + Enter.
Tips
- Use the environment: Grabbing weapons like chairs, knives, or barrels gives you a massive advantage in fights.
- Dodge using depth: The isometric plane is your best defense. Move up or down the screen to dodge incoming attacks before counter-attacking.
- Mind the crowd: Spectators will interfere if you get too close to the edges of the pit, either pushing you back in or attacking you.
