Game description:

SEGA Enterprises released this role-playing game on the Sega Master System in 1987. Sega’s console output leaned on its arcade division, and the pacing tends to show it.

What to expect

Progress is measured in equipment, party strength and map knowledge rather than reflexes. Expect preparation between fights — the battles are winnable once the party is ready for them. The ROM is 312 kB, so it is in memory almost as soon as you press play.

Background

Master System games often came from Sega’s own arcade division, which shows in their pacing. The copy on this page runs through an emulator compiled to WebAssembly, so nothing is installed on your machine. The late eighties are when console games settled into levels, checkpoints and a difficulty curve rather than an endless loop.
