Persona Revelations — released in North America as Revelations: Persona — is a 1996 PlayStation role-playing game from Atlus, the original entry in what became the long-running Persona series. A group of students at St. Hermelin High School in the town of Lunarvale play a rumored fortune-telling game and are knocked unconscious; when they wake, they discover they can summon Personas, manifestations of their own psyche that take the shape of mythological figures and monsters, to fight the demons now invading their world. The game pairs first-person dungeon crawling through maze-like levels with turn-based battles, and lets you recruit demons by negotiating with them in battle instead of simply fighting them off.
How to Play
Your objective is to lead your party through Lunarvale’s dungeons, battling and negotiating with demons along the way, while following the story toward each area’s boss.
Default Controls:
- D-Pad / Arrow Keys: Move through the dungeon and navigate menus
- Cross (Z): Confirm a selection / attack in battle
- Circle (X): Cancel / back out of a menu
- Triangle (S): Open the main menu
- Start (Enter): Pause the game
Tips
- When a demon offers to talk instead of attacking, use the negotiate option and answer according to its mood, or offer it money or items — a successful negotiation recruits it as a usable Persona instead of just ending the fight.
- Swapping a character’s equipped Persona costs that character’s turn, so pick your line-up for a dungeon before you head in rather than juggling Personas fight by fight.
- Choosing the harder difficulty at the very start of a new game unlocks access to the Snow Queen Quest, a hidden side story that can’t be reached later by changing the difficulty setting.
