Pac Land World (released in 1984 for the Arcade) is a foundational side-scrolling platformer. Originally known as Pac-Land and developed by Namco, the game takes Pac-Man out of his familiar maze and puts him in a vibrant, scrolling world. Your goal is to guide him across town, through forests, and over mountains to return a lost fairy to Fairyland, all while avoiding the ghosts who pursue him in various vehicles.
How to Play
The objective is to reach the end of each round before the time limit expires, dodging obstacles and ghosts along the way. In the arcade original, movement was controlled using dedicated left and right buttons rather than a joystick, with a separate jump button. In the browser emulator, use the left and right arrow keys to run, double-tap them to dash, and use the assigned action buttons (typically Space, Z, or X) to jump over hazards.
Tips
- Momentum is key: Pac-Man moves faster if you repeatedly tap the directional button to build up a dash. You will need this extra speed to make longer jumps over water and ravines.
- Find the hidden power pellets: Keep an eye out for Power Pellets along the route. Just like in the original maze game, eating one turns the ghosts blue, allowing you to chomp them for bonus points.
- Springboards require timing: When using a springboard, press the jump button right as you hit the board to gain maximum height.
