Game description:

Ninjakun Majou no Bouken (Ninja-Kun: Adventure of Devil Castle) is a 1984 arcade platformer developed by UPL and published by Taito. Playing as a ninja infiltrating a castle, you fight your way through three repeating stages that alternate between side-scrolling platforming sections, where you climb and jump between ledges, and top-down maze rooms where you dash between corridors — with each lap around getting tougher.

How to Play

The goal on every screen is to clear out the enemies before the timer runs out, then move on to the next one. Shuriken are your main weapon, and jumping onto an enemy’s head stuns it instead of costing you a hit — useful when you’re out of throwing range. Working through the top-down rooms turns up temporary bonus weapons, including a boomerang, bombs, and rolling destructive balls, which replace your shuriken while you hold them. In the browser, movement uses the arrow keys, with Z and X as the action buttons and Shift/Enter for coin and start — the site’s standard arcade control mapping.

Tips

  • Every stage runs on a strict timer, so prioritize clearing the enemies blocking your path over exploring.
  • Jump on enemies rather than throwing shuriken at close range — a head-stomp is safer and doesn’t cost you a hit.
  • Bonus weapons like the boomerang and bombs only last a limited time, so use their extra reach while you have them instead of saving them.
