Game description:

Navy Blue is a 1992 strategy game for the Famicom/NES, developed by Use Co. and published by I’Max exclusively in Japan. Bringing the classic game of Battleship to your screen, it enhances the traditional formula with a full single-player campaign. Players command a fleet of naval vessels, strategically positioning their ships and attempting to sink the hidden enemy fleet by calling out grid coordinates.

How to Play

The objective is to guess the coordinates of your opponent’s hidden ships and destroy their entire fleet before they sink yours. Unlike standard Battleship, this version introduces RPG-style progression and special armaments like sonar and cruise missiles to aid in your attacks.

Controls: Use the Arrow Keys (D-pad) to navigate the grid. Press Z (A) to select coordinates or fire weapons, and X (B) to cancel. Press Enter (Start) to pause or confirm selections.

Tips

  • Spread your initial shots evenly across the grid in a checkerboard pattern to find the larger ships more quickly.
  • Once you score a hit, target the adjacent squares horizontally and vertically until the ship is fully sunk.
  • Save your special weapons like cruise missiles for when you’ve narrowed down enemy locations, rather than wasting them on random guesses.
