Moai Kun is a classic puzzle-platformer released by Konami for the NES in 1990. In this brain-teasing adventure, you control a Moai statue navigating through 56 increasingly difficult stages. Your objective is to rescue all the captive Moai (known as “Pucchis”) in each level to open the exit door, and then safely make your way out before the time limit expires. Unlike typical platformers, success relies heavily on logic and planning rather than reflexes, as every move counts.
How to Play
To complete a stage, rescue every Pucchi and reach the exit door. Using the standard browser controls, press the Arrow Keys to move, Z / X to jump and head-butt blocks or enemies, Enter (Start) to pause, and Shift (Select) to reset the stage. You can also collect bombs to destroy the blocks beneath you, which is crucial for reaching lower areas.
Tips
- Plan before you move: Your jumping ability is extremely limited. You must use blocks and rocks to bridge gaps. Pushing a rock into the wrong place can permanently trap you, so visualize your path before acting.
- Understand the physics: Pay attention to the difference between normal blocks (which can float in mid-air) and stones (which obey gravity and drop). Dropping stones strategically is essential for later puzzles.
- Don’t hesitate to reset: If you accidentally destroy a necessary block or trap yourself, use the Select button (Shift) to sacrifice a life and restart the level immediately.
