Game description:

Metroid is the pioneering action-adventure game released by Nintendo for the NES in 1986. Set on the alien planet Zebes, you control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she explores a sprawling, interconnected cavern system to stop the Space Pirates from exploiting the dangerous Metroid creatures. The game drops you into a non-linear world where finding upgradesโ€”like the Morph Ball, Bombs, and Ice Beamโ€”allows you to access previously unreachable areas and dive deeper into the planet.

How to play

Your objective is to navigate Zebes, defeat the bosses Kraid and Ridley, and destroy the Mother Brain. For the NES, the default controls are the D-pad to move, A to jump, B to shoot, and Start to pause. In your browser, these are typically mapped to the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump, X to shoot, and Enter to pause.

Tips

  • Bomb jumping: Place a bomb while in Morph Ball form and use its explosion to propel yourself upward, letting you reach tricky ledges.
  • Freeze enemies: Once you acquire the Ice Beam, shoot enemies to freeze them in place and use them as platforms to climb higher.
  • Farm for health: If your energy is low, find an area with infinitely spawning basic enemies, such as a pipe, and repeatedly defeat them to collect health drops.
