Released in 1991 for the NES, Max Warrior – Wakusei Kaigenrei (better known in the West as Isolated Warrior) is a fast-paced isometric shoot-’em-up developed by KID and published by Vap. Players control lone soldier Max Maverick as he attempts to single-handedly push back a mysterious alien force that is consuming the planet Pan.
How to Play
The objective is to survive six intense stages of high-speed shooting, navigating on foot, motorcycle, and hovercraft while dodging enemy fire and environmental hazards. As an NES title, you play using the D-pad (arrow keys) to move in eight directions, while the A button (X key) jumps and the B button (Z key) fires your weapons. Use Start (Enter) to pause the game.
Tips
- Focus on upgrading your primary weapon and bombs as early as possible, as the screen can quickly fill with enemies.
- Because of the game’s unique isometric perspective, pay close attention to shadows and timing to successfully land jumps and avoid ground-based hazards.
- Consistently shooting while moving is critical; try to clear paths through the alien swarms rather than attempting to dodge everything.
