Originally hitting arcades in 1983, Mario Bros. is a classic single-screen action platformer from Nintendo, presented here in its highly faithful Atari 7800 port. Playing as Marioโor teaming up with Luigi in two-player co-opโyou are tasked with clearing out the New York City sewer system by defeating waves of pests emerging from the pipes.
How to Play
Unlike later games in the series, you cannot defeat enemies by jumping on them directly. Instead, you must jump and hit the floor directly beneath an enemy to flip them onto their back, then run into them to kick them off the screen before they recover.
Move left and right with the Arrow Keys, jump using Z or X, select your game mode with Shift, and pause with Enter.
Tips
- Crabs (Sidesteppers) require two hits from below: the first strike enrages them and increases their speed, while the second flips them over.
- Do not leave flipped enemies unattended for long. If they right themselves before you kick them away, they will change color and move significantly faster.
- The POW block in the center of the stage hits all grounded enemies at once when struck from below, but use it wiselyโit only has three charges before it disappears.
