Kyohkoh Toppa is an intense horizontally scrolling arcade shooter released by Data East in 1986. Better known internationally as Break Thru, the game puts players behind the wheel of an armed dune buggy on a mission to recover the stolen PK430 fighter plane. You must blast your way through five enemy-controlled zones, ranging from perilous mountains to heavily guarded city streets.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive all five stages and rescue the top-secret aircraft. The buggy scrolls forward automatically, but you can control its speed while firing your front-mounted gun at enemy vehicles and aircraft. The standard arcade controls translate to the arrow keys for movement and speed, with one button for firing (typically Z) and another for jumping (typically X).
Tips
- Your buggy’s jump is its most important tool. Use it to vault over landmines, clear broken bridges, and avoid low-flying enemy fire.
- Managing your speed is critical. Slow down when approaching tricky terrain or heavy resistance, but be prepared to accelerate out of tight spots.
- Keep your fire steady to clear a path ahead, but don’t forget to watch the skies for incoming aerial attacks.
