Game description:

Marble Madness is an isometric action game designed by Mark Cerny and originally released by Atari in 1984. Electronic Arts brought it to the Sega Genesis, preserving its core concept: guide a marble through six increasingly difficult race courses โ€” Beginner, Intermediate, Aerial, Cat, Silly, and Ultimate โ€” before the countdown reaches zero.

How to play

The d-pad rolls your marble toward the exit ramp at the end of each course. Every second you bank on one stage carries into the next as a time bonus, so fast runs compound. Enemies and hazards โ€” roaming steelies, acid patches, vacuums, and narrow ledges โ€” slow you down, knock you off the edge, or drain time directly. Falling returns the marble to where it dropped, but costs precious seconds. The game supports two simultaneous players racing on the same screen; bumping an opponent into a hazard is legal.

Keyboard controls: arrow keys to roll the marble, Enter to start.

Tips

  • Speed kills on narrow ledges. Build momentum through open corridors but ease off approaching edges and tight turns.
  • Acid patches drain seconds instantly โ€” even when the direct path cuts through one, the longer route around is almost always faster overall.
  • In two-player mode, steering deliberately into your opponent near a ledge or enemy is a valid tactic and often the deciding factor.
