Game description:

Mahjong is a classic 1983 table game developed by Nintendo, originally released as a launch title for the Japanese Famicom (the counterpart to the NES). It offers a faithful digital recreation of traditional Japanese mahjong (Riichi Mahjong), where players compete in a one-on-one match against a computer opponent to build winning hands and score points based on traditional yaku (scoring patterns).

The objective is to draw and discard tiles to complete a winning hand before your opponent does. In your browser, use the D-pad (arrow keys) to highlight a tile or menu option, press A (Z key) to select or confirm a discard, and B (X key) to cancel an action. Press Start (Enter) to begin or pause the game.

Because the game strictly follows traditional Japanese riichi rules, understanding basic yaku is essential to scoring high. Pay close attention to your opponent’s discards to avoid dealing into their winning hand, and declare “Riichi” when your hand is one tile away from completion to increase your point potential.
