Macross II (Korea) is the Korean release of Choujikuu Yousai Macross II, a 1993 arcade shoot-’em-up developed by NMK and published by Banpresto. Loosely based on the Super Dimension Fortress Macross II OVA and movie compilation, it’s a horizontally-scrolling caravan shooter — one of the last of its kind in Japanese arcades — where racking up score matters as much as staying alive.
How to play
Each stage gives you a strict two-minute time limit and a par score to hit; miss the quota and it’s game over, no matter how many lives you have left. Pick one of two playable characters, each with a different movement speed, then choose from three courses — Beginner, Medium, or Expert — built from four stages apiece (the first three scale with difficulty, the fourth stage is shared across all three courses). Move with the arrow keys, fire with Z, and drop a screen-clearing bomb with X. Power-ups let you switch your ship between the nimble Fighter mode and the sturdier Gerwalk mode, and your missiles come in two firing types for handling different enemy patterns.
Tips
- A low score ends your run even with lives to spare, so treat every stage as a two-minute scoring sprint rather than a survival challenge.
- Bombs clear the screen and grant brief invulnerability — save at least one for whenever you get boxed in as the timer runs down.
- Fighter and Gerwalk handle differently, so switch between them early to find which form suits the course you picked.
