Game description:

Low G Man: The Low Gravity Man is a distinctively unconventional action-platformer developed by KID and released for the NES in 1990. Playing as the acrobatic hero Kal, your mission is to infiltrate a robot-producing alien base and rescue the captured hostages. The game sets itself apart from standard platformers through its unique combat system and its namesake “low gravity” jumping mechanics, offering a much more vertical take on the genre.

How to Play

The primary objective is to reach the end of each scrolling stage while rescuing hostages and defeating boss encounters. Unlike most side-scrollers, your primary projectileโ€”a freeze gunโ€”does not destroy enemies. Instead, you must first freeze a robot, then destroy it by striking from above or below with your spear. The NES controls translate to the browser by using the arrow keys to move, X to perform your signature high jump (the A button), Z to fire your freeze gun or thrust your spear (the B button), and Enter to start the game. You can also commandeer certain enemy vehicles, like spider-mechs, for heavier firepower.

Tips

  • Mastering the freeze-and-stab rhythm is essential, as simply charging into enemies will only drain your health.
  • Use your extreme jump height to explore the vertical expanses of each level, as hostages and power-ups for your spear and health are often hidden high up or on alternate routes.
  • Some bosses are immune to your freeze gun and require precision spear thrusts to defeat, so prioritize upgrading your spears range whenever possible.
