The Lion King is a 1994 platformer for the Sega Genesis based on Disney’s animated film, developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive. It follows Simba’s journey from a playful cub in the Pride Lands to the adult lion who must reclaim his throne from Scar, with levels that recreate key scenes from the movie, including the Elephant Graveyard, the wildebeest stampede, and the final confrontation at Pride Rock.
How to Play
You control Simba as he runs and jumps through each stage. Young Simba relies on a chargeable roar to stun nearby enemies, indicated by a meter that fills as you defeat foes and collect items; roaring before it’s full does little. As adult Simba, jumping becomes his main attack, letting him pounce on hyenas and other threats directly. Controls in the browser: arrow keys to move and duck, Z to jump, and X to roar/attack.
Tips
- Wait for the roar meter to fill before using it as young Simba â an early roar wastes the stun and leaves you exposed.
- The Elephant Graveyard and Stampede stages are notoriously difficult; memorize hazard placement rather than reacting on the fly.
- As adult Simba, jumping directly onto enemies is more reliable than trying to out-position them.
