🎮 Play Lion King, The Online (DOS)

Released in 1994 by Virgin Interactive, The Lion King is a beautifully animated but notoriously challenging action platformer for DOS. Featuring fluid sprites crafted by actual Disney animators, the game faithfully follows Simba’s journey from a young cub to the adult king of the Pride Lands.

How to play

As a cub, Simba relies on pouncing on enemies and roaring to stun them or flip hazards like porcupines. Once he grows into an adult lion, Simba gains the ability to slash with his claws and execute powerful throws. Since this is the DOS version, use the arrow keys to move. Action buttons are typically mapped to Space, Alt, and Ctrl for jumping, roaring, and slashing. Press Right Alt + Enter to toggle fullscreen mode.

Tips

• In the “Can’t Wait to be King” level, you must roar at the pink monkeys to change their orientation; this alters the direction they toss you so you can solve the puzzle.
• As adult Simba, mastering the throw move is essential for defeating tougher enemies like the hyenas and Scar, as standard slashes will only temporarily wear them down.
• Take your time during the Hakuna Matata waterfall sequence. The falling logs follow a strict repeating pattern, so watch their movement carefully before committing to a jump.
