Kokontouzai Eto Monogatari is a competitive falling-block puzzle game released for the Arcade by Visco in 1994. Heavily inspired by titles like Puyo Puyo, the game features a colorful, lighthearted theme where you play as a catโthe animal famously left out of the Chinese Zodiac. To claim your rightful place, you must defeat the other twelve zodiac animals in head-to-head puzzle battles.
How to Play
As a standard arcade title played in the browser, press Shift (or 5) to insert a coin and Enter (or 1) to start the game. The falling pieces drop in groups of three and can be manipulated into horizontal, vertical, or L-shaped formations. Use the Arrow keys to steer and drop the pieces, and press Z or X to rotate their shape. Match three or more identical tiles to clear them from your board, which in turn sends “garbage” blocks to clutter your opponent’s playfield. You win the round if your opponent’s blocks reach the top of their screen.
Tips
- Master the L-shape: Because you can manipulate falling pieces into an L-shape, you have more flexibility in slotting them into uneven gaps compared to standard straight blocks.
- Build chain reactions: Focus on setting up combos rather than just clearing single groups. Triggering a chain reaction is the most effective way to overwhelm the CPU with garbage blocks.
- Watch the CPU patterns: The AI becomes noticeably more aggressive as you progress through the 13 stages, and each zodiac animal plays a bit differently. Pay attention to how they stack so you can anticipate and counter their incoming attacks.
