Kaettekita Mario Bros. is an updated version of the classic platformer, originally released for the Famicom Disk System in 1988 as a promotional game sponsored by the Japanese food company Nagatanien. It retains the core pest-clearing gameplay of the original Mario Bros. while introducing improved physics, new modes, intermissions, and the ability to save high scores.

The objective is to clear each phase by defeating all the enemies—such as Shellcreepers (turtles), Sidesteppers (crabs), and Fighter Flies—that emerge from the pipes. You must bump the floor directly beneath an enemy to flip it over, then jump into it to kick it off the screen before it recovers. For NES controls in the browser, use the arrow keys to move, and the Z or X keys to jump.

Use the POW block strategically; hitting it from below flips all grounded enemies on the screen at once, but it has limited uses per phase. Sidesteppers require two bumps from below to flip over—the first hit only makes them faster and angrier.
