Game description:

Journey to Silius is a 1990 action-platformer developed by Sun Electronics for the NES. Originally planned as a licensed game based on The Terminator, it was reworked into an original sci-fi run-and-gun shooter after the licensing fell through. It is well known for its punishing difficulty, mechanical enemy designs, and a driving, bass-heavy soundtrack that pushes the NES audio hardware to its limits.

How to play

Your goal is to guide Jay McCray through five stages of robotic enemies to reach and destroy the terrorist core. You start with a basic handgun and a shotgun, unlocking new weapons like a machine gun, homing missiles, and a laser as you defeat stage bosses.

Tips

  • Special weapons draw from a single, shared ammunition pool. Use them sparingly and switch back to the default handgun when you don’t need heavy firepower.
  • Enemies respawn infinitely if you scroll the screen back and forth. Keep pushing forward steadily instead of trying to clear the area entirely.
  • The shotgun is incredibly useful for taking out enemies positioned just below or above your line of fire due to its wide spread.
