Jaws is an action game released for the NES in 1987 by LJN, loosely based on the film Jaws: The Revenge. Players navigate a boat across a top-down oceanic map, dropping into side-scrolling encounters to battle sea creatures and collect resources before finally facing down the iconic great white shark.
How to play
Explore the overworld map to locate ports and upgrade your gear using conch shells dropped by defeated enemies. During the side-scrolling action sequences, use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to move your diver or submarine, and press A (Z key) to fire harpoons or torpedoes. Press B (X key) to drop bombs during the seaplane bonus stages. Start (Enter) pauses the game. Your objective is to increase your power level enough to survive the final encounter with Jaws, where you must strike him with the front of your boat.
Tips
- Conch shells act as the game’s currency. Farm them during the side-scrolling sections to upgrade your weapon power at ports.
- Obtain the submarine as early as possible. It provides a significant advantage in underwater combat by allowing you to fire fast-moving torpedoes.
- Watch the tracker on the overworld map to monitor Jaws’s position and avoid engaging him before your power level is high enough.
