Game description:

Jangou is a classic mahjong game released exclusively in Japan for the NES (Famicom) in 1990. Developed by Victor Musical Industries, it brings traditional Japanese mahjong gameplay to the 8-bit console, offering a straightforward digital table to test your tile-matching skills.

How to Play

The objective is to build a winning hand of tiles according to traditional Japanese riichi mahjong rules. You compete against AI opponents, drawing and discarding tiles to complete your hand. Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to navigate your hand and the menus. Press the Z or X keys (mapped to A and B buttons) to select, draw, or discard tiles, and the Enter key (Start) to pause or confirm selections.

Tips

  • If you are new to Japanese mahjong, take time to learn the basic yaku (winning patterns), as you cannot declare a win without at least one valid yaku.
  • Pay attention to the opponent’s discards to avoid dealing into their winning hand, especially late in the round.
