Developed by Konami and released for the NES in 1988, Jackal is a classic overhead run-and-gun arcade shooter where you take command of an armed military jeep. Sent into hostile territory, your primary mission is to infiltrate enemy camps, blast through heavy defenses, and rescue POW comrades trapped in heavily fortified compounds.
How to Play
Navigate your jeep through enemy lines using the D-pad (arrow keys). Press the A button (Z key) to fire your machine gun, which always shoots straight ahead relative to the screen. Use the B button (X key) to launch grenades or missiles in the direction your jeep is facing. To rescue prisoners, blow open the POW buildings and drive your jeep close to the men as they run out, then deliver them safely to the extraction choppers waiting at helipads.
Tips
- Rescuing the flashing POWs upgrades your secondary weapon from a standard grenade to a missile, and eventually to a devastating spread missile.
- Your machine gun is fixed firing upward, meaning you must position yourself below enemies to shoot them with it. Rely on your explosive weapons for targets on your flanks or behind you.
- Avoid driving directly into enemy infantry, as foot soldiers can destroy your heavily armed jeep just by touching it.
