Game description:

J. League Champion Soccer is a 1993 sports game released exclusively in Japan for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive). Developed by Krisalis Software and published by Game Arts and Shogakukan, it is a localized adaptation of European Club Soccer. The game brings the fast-paced arcade football engine of the original to the Japanese market, swapping out international clubs for the inaugural teams of the newly formed J.League.

How to Play

Choose your favorite J.League club and lead them to victory on the pitch in exhibition matches or a full tournament. Use the D-pad to maneuver your players around the field, while the A, B, and C buttons handle passing, shooting, and sliding tackles depending on whether you are attacking or defending. In the browser, these controls are mapped to the arrow keys along with Z, X, and C.

Tips

  • Because the game shares its engine with European Club Soccer, mastering the timing of your sliding tackles is crucial for regaining possession without drawing fouls.
  • Use quick passing to move the ball around defenders, as running directly with the ball can slow your player down and leave them vulnerable.
  • Keep an eye on the on-screen radar to track off-screen teammates before crossing the ball into the penalty area.
