Game description:

Originally released in Japan in 1993 before heading west as Firestriker, Holy Striker for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System is a unique fusion of top-down action and classic block-breaking mechanics. Developed by Axes Art Amuse, it presents itself with an RPG-style fantasy aesthetic but plays more like a combat-driven pinball game. You take on the role of an armored hero wielding the Trialight, a magical sphere used as a weapon to clear obstacles, defeat monsters, and topple bosses across four elemental kingdoms.

How to Play

The objective is to guide the hero around each screen and strike the Trialight orb to destroy barriers and enemies, eventually progressing to the stage boss. Think of it as controlling the paddle in Breakout, but with full freedom of movement across the screen. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move your character, and press Z or X (mapping to the SNES action buttons) to swing your weapon and hit the orb. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Your sword swing dictates the direction of the Trialight orb. Hitting it head-on sends it straight forward, while clipping it on the edge will angle your shot, allowing you to bank it around tricky obstacles.
  • Keep an eye on the bottom of the screen. If the orb slips past you and off the stage, you will lose a life. Treat the bottom edge as a constant hazard.
  • During boss encounters, focus on survival over dealing constant damage. Watch the boss’s attack patterns and only strike the orb when you have a clear, safe angle.
