Released in 1992 by Sega, Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder is a classic arcade beat-’em-up that serves as the true arcade sequel to the original hit. Running on the powerful System 32 hardware, it expands on the original’s formula by offering branching paths, stunning 2D sprite work, and four distinct playable characters: Stern Blade, Dora the centaur, Little Trix, and the giant Goah, who rides into battle carrying the legendary dwarf Gilius Thunderhead. You battle your way across the land of Yuria to defeat the resurrected Death Adder, utilizing melee combos, rideable beasts, and devastating magic attacks.
How to play
The objective is to fight through waves of enemies and bosses across multiple stages, ultimately confronting Death Adder. In the browser emulator, press Shift (or 5) to insert a coin and Enter (or 1) to start. Use the Arrow keys to move. Press Z to attack, X to jump, and C to unleash your character’s screen-clearing magic attack. You can dash by double-tapping left or right, and execute powerful dash attacks or jumping strikes. Along the way, rescue prisoners to obtain magic potions and food to restore health.
Tips
- Manage your magic: Unlike the first game, you do not need to use all your magic potions at once. The game consumes a set number of potions for each magic tier, allowing you to save up for more powerful attacks or use weaker spells more frequently.
- Utilize rideable beasts: Knock enemies off their mounts, such as the giant mantises or fire-breathing scorpions, and jump on them to gain a massive advantage in range and damage.
- Team attacks: If you are playing with others, characters can perform cooperative attacks by standing close together and pressing the attack button simultaneously.
