Game description:

Step away from the action-platformer roots of the first game and into the commander’s seat in Godzilla 2: War of the Monsters, a turn-based strategy game released for the NES in 1992 by Toho. Instead of controlling the giant beasts, you take charge of the JSDF (Japan Self-Defense Forces), deploying tanks, jets, and specialized weapons to defend cities against iconic kaiju like Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

How to Play

Your objective is to protect key bases and defeat the invading monsters across various tactical scenarios. Use the D-pad to move your cursor across the grid-based map, press A to select units, issue commands, and confirm attacks, and press B to cancel actions. Start pauses the game or opens the main menu, while Select cycles through your available units.

Tips for Commanders

  • Use long-range units like missile launchers to attack from a distance; engaging monsters in close combat often results in heavy losses.
  • Surround monsters with your cheaper units to block their movement and protect your more valuable assets like the Super-X.
  • Always try to end a unit’s turn on a base, as this will allow them to resupply ammunition and repair damage between rounds.
