Giga Wing is a frantic vertical shoot ’em up developed by Takumi Corporation and published by Capcom for arcade systems in 1999. Running on the CPS-2 hardware, it is famous for its massive bullet-hell difficulty and a ridiculous scoring system that quickly climbs into the trillions. At the core of its gameplay is the unique Reflect Force mechanic, which allows players to turn overwhelming waves of enemy fire into devastating counterattacks.
How to Play
The objective is to survive multiple stages by destroying waves of enemies and defeating massive bosses. Use the arrow keys to navigate your ship through dense patterns of enemy fire. Press Z to fire your main weapon and X to deploy a screen-clearing bomb. Holding down the fire button (Z) activates the Reflect Force shield, which absorbs enemy bullets and fires them back in a spread pattern, though it requires a brief cooldown period after each use.
Tips
- Master the Reflect Force: Don’t just use your shield for defense. Reflecting large bullet clusters is the key to earning medals and achieving astronomical scores.
- Manage your cooldowns: You are completely vulnerable for a few seconds after your Reflect Force dissipates. Position yourself in a safe spot before activating it.
- Point-blank for damage: Reflected bullets deal massive damage. Activating your shield up close against a boss during a heavy attack can melt their health bar instantly.
