Artillery Duel is a turn-based strategy game released for the Atari 2600 in 1983 by Xonox. Set across jagged mountain landscapes, two opposing artillery crews engage in long-range ballistics duels, competing to calculate trajectories and destroy the enemy cannon first.
How to Play
Each player takes turns aiming their field gun before firing. Adjust your barrel elevation angle and powder charge setting while factoring in the current wind direction and velocity displayed on screen. A direct hit destroys the enemy emplacement and earns a point.
Controls for two-player keyboard play on Past Play:
- Player 1: Use the Arrow Keys to adjust angle and powder, and press Spacebar to fire.
- Player 2: Use T / G / F / H for movement/aiming adjustments and press A to fire.
- Console Controls: Press F11 for SELECT and F12 for RESET to start a new match.
Strategy & Tips
- Factor in the wind: Always inspect the wind gauge before setting your shot. Strong headwinds drag shells down short of the target, while tailwinds carry shots far over enemy lines.
- Walk your shots in: Use your previous shell’s splash or crater as a visual reference. If your last shot landed short, make small incremental increases to powder or barrel angle rather than wild recalculations.
