Gauntlet Rev 5 is a specific ROM revision of Gauntlet, the genre-defining 1985 arcade dungeon crawler from Atari Games. One of the first games to let four players fight side by side at once, it drops Thor the Warrior, Thyra the Valkyrie, Merlin the Wizard, and Questor the Elf into a maze of monster-filled dungeons, each character built around a different playstyle.

How to Play

The goal on each level is to fight through swarms of enemies pouring out of generators, grab treasure, food, and keys, and reach the exit before your health runs out — your character’s health ticks down constantly, so staying fed matters as much as staying armed. Move with the arrow keys and attack in the direction you’re facing with Z. Insert a virtual coin with Shift and press Enter to start.

Tips

• Destroy generators on sight — left alone, they keep churning out monsters indefinitely and will overwhelm you if you try to out-damage the spawn instead of the source.
• Watch your health bar like a clock, not just a life total: it drains over time even when nothing is attacking you, so grab food the moment you see it rather than saving it.
• Pick a character to match your priorities — Thor hits hardest up close, Thyra has the strongest armor, Questor moves and shoots fastest, and Merlin’s magic bolts pierce through crowds.
